Trend Report: Bring the Outside In

— by Stearns and Foster on Aug 2, 2022

While many of us appreciate nature, you may struggle to find time to get outside and truly enjoy it. If you’re a fan of the great outdoors, you understand how refreshing and relaxing nature makes you feel. When considering a refresh for your own space, try bringing the outdoors in – it’s easier than you may think. By inviting natural elements into your home, you can enjoy the rejuvenating qualities of nature without leaving the comfort of your bed.

Incorporate Natural Materials

Adding natural materials to the structure and decorative elements of your space is a perfect way to add an outdoorsy feel.

  • Opt for a natural flooring option: Try cork, hardwood, or bamboo over manmade materials to help you feel closer to nature.
  • Utilize wood and stone in your structures: Common features in your home, like fireplaces and bathroom sinks, provide a perfect opportunity to get creative with natural elements. Instead of a steel or tile fireplace, select a stone option instead. Hoping to get more creative? Replace your bathroom vanity with stone or a wooden countertop.
  • Revamp your bedding: There are several options when considering bedding. Try a 100% cotton sheet set or a linen duvet to create a naturally cozy oasis.
  • Incorporate rattan furniture and accessories: Rattan furniture is almost always associated with the outdoors, making it a great decorating resource for your space. Add a rattan chair to the corner of your room to help curate a nature-filled getaway.

Let in Natural Light

One of the easiest ways to invite nature into your space is by saying goodbye to fluorescent bulbs and letting the natural light flow right in. Large windows are the perfect way to achieve this – leave your curtains open during the day to soak up as much light as possible! In addition to windows, skylights are another wonderful option.

Put. Plants. Everywhere.

The most common way to include nature in your home décor is by adding plants and fresh flowers. Pop a bouquet on your nightstand or in your bathroom for a splash of color. If you’re open to putting your green thumb to the test, potted plants are an essential décor item and can bring texture to an empty shelf or corner. Additionally, many plants are perfect for the bedroom, offering positive benefits related to sleep – learn how to grow your sleep sanctuary like a pro.

Whether you consider yourself a wilderness explorer or prefer to view the beauty of nature from the comfort of home, we hope you enjoy bringing those relaxing, grounding elements into your space.
