Product Care
We want you to enjoy the luxurious craftsmanship of your Stearns & Foster® product for as long as possible; that's why we've made caring for your product simple and easy.
If you have questions about your Stearns & Foster® product not covered here, please contact our expert customer service team or find your answer within our help center.
Cleaning the Mattress Cover
The covers on Stearns & Foster® mattresses are spot-clean only and are not water-resistant.
To prolong the life of your mattress and keep it clean, we recommend using a water-resistant mattress protector to protect against liquid damage. Vacuuming is the only recommended cleaning method, and it should be completed at least once a month to prevent dust and debris build-up on the surface of your mattress.
If your mattress is exposed to liquid or has a stain, please take the following steps to clean the area:
- Use a dry cloth to absorb as much liquid as possible, pushing down into the material. Once you've removed the excess moisture, let the mattress air dry (you can use a fan to blow air directly on the mattress to expedite the process).
- To clean a stain, use a mild soap with cold or warm water and apply lightly, careful not to soak the mattress. Dry cleaning fluids may damage some of the inner materials. Afterward, let the affected area dry completely before applying any bedding.
Electric Blankets and Heating Pads
You may use an electric blanket and/or heating pad on your Stearns & Foster® mattress. However, we recommend only using it for 20-30 minutes at a time on a medium setting.
Extremely high temperatures can negatively affect the foam composition, which could result in permanent deformation in cases of prolonged use; however, the medium setting should have little to no impact.
Flipping and Rotating
Our mattresses are designed to be rotated but do not flip.
Transporting and Storing
When transporting or storing your mattress, we recommend having at least 2-3 people help move it horizontally, with the top facing up, to prevent any damage to the internal mattress layers.
Bending the mattress may damage the innerspring unit; however, flexing the mattress through doorways should not harm it.
When storing your mattress, place it flat, with the top facing up, in a clean, temperature-controlled environment. Placing it on its side could result in issues with the internal mattress layers.
The mattress may be wrapped with plastic but may not be vacuum-sealed.
Off-Gassing
Stearns & Foster® mattresses may have a slight odor after they are manufactured. This natural and harmless smell usually disappears before the product reaches you.
If you detect this odor, don't worry, it will gradually disappear within a week or two. Sometimes, it’s helpful to “air out“ your mattress for a couple of days, leaving the sheets off when not in use to help expedite this process.
Cleaning the Base
To prolong the life of the base fabric, protect it from direct sunlight whenever possible.
If your base has a stain, please take the following steps to spot-clean the area:
- Vacuum with a soft brush attachment or wipe area with a lightly damp sponge to remove particles.
- Wipe with a clean cloth dampened with warm water. Do not wet excessively. To remove stubborn stains, gently brush the affected area using a soft-bristled brush to avoid scratching.
- Wipe with a clean cloth dampened with warm water to remove residues after brushing.
- Dry in the shade away from direct heat.
Transporting and Storing
Flat Foundation
The flat foundation can be transported/stored on its side if needed. However, for best results, we recommend storing it flat, with the top facing up.
Power Base
We recommend disassembling your adjustable power base for safe transport and storage to avoid damage to the connected components, thus ensuring they remain intact and functional.
To disassemble your adjustable power base, simply follow the set-up instructions in reverse. You can find these steps listed in the owner's manual here: Ease® Adjustable Power Base Owner's Manual
Cleaning the Pillow Cover
All of our current pillow models feature a removable, machine-washable cover. If you're unsure whether your Stearns & Foster® pillow has one, please refer to the care tag, typically located around the item's edge or sewn inside the cover. If no tag is located, you may also contact our customer service team.
We recommend washing with a mild detergent in a cool setting and avoiding harsh stain removers or chlorine-based cleaners.
You may machine-dry the cover on a low-temperature setting; however, for best results, we recommend air-drying. Please note that high temperatures or "over-drying" can damage the pillow cover.
