The Finishing Touch – House Beautiful’s Whole Home 2021

When you lay down your head at night and imagine your dream home, what does it look like? Perhaps you envision a romantic cottage inspired by the French countryside. Or maybe it’s a three-story walkup with sophisticated, historic charm. We’ve all pleasantly daydreamed about making our perfect homes a reality — but with ever-changing design trends and personal styles, committing to an aesthetic overhaul can feel overwhelming!
This year, Stearns & Foster® partnered with House Beautiful for their annual Whole Home project — a built-from-the ground-up showcase that brings to life today’s finest design products and ideas in just four short months. In the rolling hills of Fredericksburg, Texas – known for its immersive design and culinary culture – House Beautiful celebrated their 125th anniversary by inviting eight designers from their Next Wave team to each design a unique space and help define what today’s ideal home should be.
When it comes to the bedroom (or as we like to call it, the best room) Whole Home recruited Virginia Toledo and Jessica Geller. This design duo likes to punch up their interior spaces with unique plays on colors, textures, and patterns — all while creating a soft modern look and feel. The team immediately looked to the home’s surroundings for inspiration. Geller explains, “We quickly decided to take the idea of a modern farmhouse that honors the location and show that this style can be more than black and white.”. [1] Black and white were far from the design path as the team integrated mustard-colored wallpaper to accompany milky creams, tobacco browns, and pale pinks within the space. For the centerpiece, the pair didn’t hesitate to opt for quality. Toledo notes, “For the mattress, we splurged on a Stearns & Foster… because we know how important a good night's sleep is,” and we couldn’t agree more. Featuring a Stearns & Foster® Reserve Hepburn mattress, their space transitioned into the perfect modern oasis.
