2022 Bedroom Design Trends: Headboards
— by Stearns & Foster on Mar 24, 2022
Spring has sprung and with this seasonal change comes the opportunity for a total refresh of your space. Small changes like painting the accent wall you’ve had your eye on all winter or swapping out your velvet duvet cover for breezy linen are easy ways to brighten your bedroom. While new trends are always on our minds, there’s one we’re watching extra closely: the statement headboard. In general, headboards aren’t necessarily a new trend – however, intentionally incorporating a bold headboard has recently evolved into a key focal element that sets the overall tone of your bedroom decor. Here are a few tips to help you select the perfect headboard design that will elevate and redefine the look and feel of your sleep space.
Shape
First, it’s important to consider the shape of your headboard. We recommend choosing a rounded silhouette rather than a traditional boxy shape. A curved headboard will give your entire room an added depth and the touch of femininity it needs to captivate anyone who walks into the room.
Size
When choosing a size, try a headboard that will truly maximize the space of your bedroom wall. The bigger the better. Going too low will allow your pillows to cover your headboard and limit the impact it will have on the entire room. Opting for a larger headboard will draw the eye directly to your beautiful bed.
Choosing the Right Color & Pattern
The theme this spring is “go bold or go back to bed,” so don’t be afraid to choose contrasting colors and patterns for your headboard. It’s no secret that bright colors – electric pinks, neon oranges, and bright yellows – are key this season. But if bold color isn’t your style, a muted color tone paired with floral, foliage, or animal patterns will still enhance the entire space. Choosing complementary shades and textures will be the finishing touch your headboard needs to balance out the entire room.
DIY
If you’re feeling inspired, why not try creating your own headboard design? We recommend using rounded, vertical slats — keep the wooden slats natural, or opt for the more daring choice by painting them. When going this route, we recommend making the headboard wall the same accent color as your slats, which will create a refined color block design that will elevate the height of your headboard.
